Behind the Brand with Bryan Elliott is one of the original pioneers in long-form content (created 6 years before NPR’s ‘How I Built This’), with a focus on inspiring storytelling and purpose to help other aspiring founders, entrepreneurs and small biz owners grow their personal or consumer brands to achieve their dreams.
Unlike other shows created by journalists, comedians, giant media companies or multi-millionaires with ulterior agendas for world domination, Bryan Elliott worked his way up from the bottom of the career ladder and earned valuable experience in brand marketing across multiple industries while climbing to the higher rungs in Corporate America.
It was December 2007 and after 10+ years of working at start ups, ad agencies and big brands, Bryan gave his resignation at a big job as part of the award-winning brand marketing & strategy team at Universal Pictures in Hollywood, where he managed projects and P&Ls with upwards of $40 million.
Inspired by signals in the industry towards all things digital — and the launch of small start up company in 2005 called Youtube, Bryan had been calibrating and calculating this move for almost three years prior.
Bryan left the studios with a tremendous amount of self-confidence and vision for the future. The plan was to start a new venture where he would be the CEO of a company called The Goodbrain, a hybrid-style brand strategy consultancy and full-service production company. When word got around to Bryan’s network that he was going out on his own, there was a surge of clients and projects which solidified his decision and made him feel even more bullish.
Bryan tendered his resignation with a full heart and new prospective clients waiting in the wings with pending contracts; enough production experience to feel dangerous; a skeleton crew working out of his garage; a young family — and almost zero savings. There was no Plan B.
Cut to 9 months later, Sept. of 2008 and Lehman Brothers declares bankruptcy causing a domino effect of companies laying off workers, slashing budgets or shutting down completely. The Goodbrain was instantly in trouble due to contracts, projects, budgets — and clients themselves disappearing overnight.
In the chaos and moments of panic that followed, Bryan went back to his brand marketing and strategy roots to solve his own problem. The solution was the series, Behind the Brand with Bryan Elliott which launched in 2009.
From the beginning the purpose of the series has been about extracting business and life lessons from the smartest, most innovate and creative people on the planet. It's like a backstage pass inside their minds, processes and habits so that our audience can cherry pick what’s most valuable and applicable to them. Host, Bryan Elliott decodes these stories to help turn their wisdom into practical tactics that can be used to improve one’s life, grow a business, brand and community.
Bryan remains relatable and active in the trenches as the eyes and ears of his audience by running The Goodbrain full-time as well as several other business investments and ventures.
